Music director Gerard Salonga and the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra recently held a special concert at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts (SDA) Theater.
Salonga and the orchestra performed pieces by classical genius Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Filipino musician Ryan Cayabyab, and contemporary composer John Williams, plus choice arrangements from Benilde students.
The concert was likewise attended by resident-children from nearby barangays, as part of the Music Production Department’s outreach project.
A joint venture of ABS-CBN and First Philippine Holdings, the ABS-CBN Philharmonic Orchestra is composed of 40 musicians under Salonga’s direction, with the guidance of executive director Mickey Munoz. The orchestra was created to connect and reinstate symphonic music into the lives of the Filipino people and its younger generation.
Salonga is a multi-awarded musical director, conductor, arranger, and multi-platinum record producer. He has collaborated with some of Asia’s finest musical artists including Lea Salonga, Regine Velasquez, Wang Leehom, Elisa Chan, and Cecile Licad.
The SDA Theater is located at the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde School of Design and Arts (SDA) Campus, 950 Pablo Ocampo Street, Malate, Manila.
