THE 2005 Southeast Asian Games featured 40 sports disciplines, and this will also most like be featured in the 2019 SEA Games when the Philippines hosts it again two years from now.
Philippine Olympic Committee president Jose “Peping” Cojuangco Jr. said this before he left for Kuala Lumpur for the start of the 29th SEA Games and to attend the SEA Games Federation Council meeting.
“We hosted a successful 2005 SEA Games. There were no complaints. They will happy to know that we will be hosting it again. And they will not be anxious to know what are the events that will be played,” said Cojuangco.
In the 23rd edition of the Games, organizers staged the highest number of sporting events in the entire history SEA Games at that time.
The sports disciplines that were included, except for arnis, were sports events that were played in the Olympics.
This will be the same principle that we will use when we decide what games will be played,” said Cojuangco.
Newly named organizing committee chairman Allan Peter Cayetano, who is also the Foreign Affairs secretary, said they will soon meet and finalize matters concerning the Games.
They are thinking of holding some of the games inside the new Clark Green City in Pampanga, the Philippines Arena in Bulacan and in some facilities in Zambales.
“Alam na ng international community ang Boracay, Cebu, Bohol at Palawan. But they don’t know that Zambales is beautiful,” said Cayetano.
The Games in the Philippines will most likely be calendared in the months of November or December.
“It’s usually in November and December. And that’s because of the (good) weather,” said Cojuangco, who finalized Cayetano’s role on the biennial meet two years from now before he left for Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Archery, aquatics, athletics and badminton would most likely be among those included in the Games calendar.
