If you build it, they will come

Semirara and Mining Power Corporation (SMPC) recently spent some P100 million to build 200 houses for its new cadet engineers and foremen in Semirara Island, Antique Province.

These  are among the 387 additional personnel hired by SMPC  to beef up the company’s mine expansion plans.  “Since May last year, we have turned over 84 houses to our employees.

We expect to complete the remaining 116 units by the end of the year,” said SMPC president and COO Victor A. Consunji. SMPC has built  nearly 1,500 housing units  for its employees to date. Each house has a total floor area of 43 square meters, and over 250 square meters of available land for backyard vegetable gardening.

SMPC also extends power and water subsidies to its mine site employees. Qualified dependents of employees have access to free basic education (K2), and vocational training. Primary medical and dental services are likewise provided  to mine site workers and their dependents.
