Price of chicken drops amid bird flu scare

The price of chickens in some wet markets in Metro Manila has decreased amid the bird flu outbreak that struck San Luis, Pampanga.

At Balintawak market in Quezon City, the price of chicken has gone down to P 120 per kilo on Monday.

The figure is down by P 20 from the regular price of chicken.

Prior to the bird flu scare, the tag price for this poultry product ranged from P 140 to P 150 per kilo.

Reports say, demand for chickens by market vendors to suppliers went down by 50 percent.

The Department of Health has stressed that bird flu virus is not transmitted to humans.

Avian influenza outbreaks had also plagued farms in Indonesia, Vietnam, Bangladesh and China.

So far, no human has contracted the bird flu virus.
