Alleged shipper of P 6.4B shabu faces grilling at Senate

Senate Blue Ribbon Committee Chairman Richard Gordon is grilling Richard Tan, alias Richard Chen, in a hearing at the Senate on Wednesday.

Tan is the owner of the company Hong Fei Philippines which allegedly shipped the 605 kilograms of shabu from China into the Philippines last May.

Tan testified he received the shipment on May 24, 2017.

Then, he got a phone call from the Customs bureau in China informing him that there were illegal drugs contained in the importation.

He, however, said until Philippine government agents opened the shipments during a raid, he was not sure if there was shabu in the cargoes.

Tan is talking in Mandarin and is being assisted by an interpreter.

Gordon seemed impatient with Tan's answers.

"You are being evasive," he told Tan.

Gordon said the statements Tan is giving to the Senate do not match the contents of his affidavits.

The senator warned Tan that he will be put under contempt if he does not tell the truth.

The shipment passed through Bureau of Customs (BOC) through a super green lane and it did not go through regular inspection.
