SM Skating presented to the public its promising ice athletes at the SM Megamall Skating Rink on Thursday.
The group will compete in this year’s Southeast Asian Games, which for the first time, is including winter sports.
Comprising the country’s roster for the 29th SEA Games are figure skaters Michael Martinez, Jules Alpe, Samantha Cabiles and Alisson Perticheto, ice hockey’s Team Pilipinas, and the country’s first speed skater, Kathryn Magno.
The seasoned figure skaters, led by the Winter Olympian Martinez, are aiming for top spots as they perform their new programs for the skating event in the SEA Games.
Gold is also the goal for the country’s national team for ice hockey as Team Pilipinas has already won the bronze during the 2017 Asian Winter Games held in Japan last February.
Magno, who bagged gold in the 2016 Tri-Series South East Asia Cup, will be joining the Philippine team in their glide to the top.
The ice athletes will compete for five medals in the SEA Games, which will be held at Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Aug. 19 to 30.
