Asian Banking & Finance magazine recently conferred its prestigious Corporate Social Responsibility Program of the Year Gold Award to BDO Foundation in recognition of the latter’s rehabilitation program for rural health units.

It is the highest honor given by the Singapore-based finance publication to corporate foundations. BDO Foundation clinched the gold award this year after consistently winning silvers in the past three years.

BDO Transaction Banking Group head Edwin Reyes accepted the award at the Retail Banking Awards 2017 held in Singapore.

Organized by Asian Banking & Finance, the event recognizes banks that deliver outstanding products and services. It was attended by more than 260 banking and insurance executives from 30 countries, including China, India, Indonesia, Korea, Singapore, and Thailand.

Asian Banking & Finance honored BDO Foundation’s rehabilitation program for rural health units, an initiative that aims to improve the delivery of primary healthcare services in disaster-stricken communities all over the Philippines.

Through the program, the foundation improves the health centers’ offices, clinics, consultation rooms, treatment rooms, pharmacies and birthing facilities, among others. Further, it installs breastfeeding stations as well as waiting areas for children and senior citizens.

Backed by BDO’s wide network of branches nationwide, the foundation has successfully rehabilitated more than 30 health centers since 2012.

The initiative is in line with BDO Foundation’s disaster response advocacy and contributes to the achievement of the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goal Number 3, “to ensure healthy lives and promote the well-being of people of all ages.”

According to BDO Foundation president Mario Deriquito, “The recognition we just received strengthens our resolve to continue finding ways to address the needs of our less fortunate fellow Filipinos.”

“We share this award with our partners including local government units, municipal or city health officers and their staff, and our colleagues in BDO who have gone out of their way to help us make these projects happen,” he added.
