President Rodrigo Duterte has appointed media executive Jose Manuel "Babe" Romualdez the new Philippine Ambassador to the United States (US).
Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella's statement reads, "Palace announces the nomination of Jose Manuel Del Gallego Romualdez as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States of America."

With the appointment, Malacanang hopes to strengthen PH-US relations.
It also hopes to promote stronger cooperation between the two nations.
Prior to this, Duterte had earlier named Romualdez special envoy to the US.
