Makati nabs 77k traffic violators

More than 7,700 traffic violations were recorded by the Makati City government during its intensified road clearing and anti-obstruction operations this month, in line with the city’s program to promote road discipline and obedience to traffic rules.

The Makati Public Safety Department (PSD) recorded a total of 7,719 traffic violations during the first two weeks of July, upon the directive of Mayor Abigail Binay to conduct daily operations against all kinds of obstructions, including illegally parked vehicles, illegal public transport terminals and street vendors.

“As the number of motor vehicles using our roads continues to increase, we must ensure that traffic laws are strictly observed by motorists to keep our streets safe and speed up traffic flow as well,” Binay said.

She said the city government has taken a hard stance against disobedient motorists to restore order and discipline on the streets and respect for the law in the city.

“Mobility is a key factor to sustaining progress and development in our city. We are determined to use the full force of the law to effectively address traffic congestion caused by disobedient motorists and illegal vendors blocking roads and sidewalks,” said Binay.

The mayor also reiterated her call to residents and the riding public to report abusive and reckless drivers through the city’s official social media accounts, and give important details such as the plate number, type of vehicle and location.

PUBLIC SERVICE. Makati Mayor Abby Binay distributed school uniforms and school supplies to students of Pio del Pilar Elementary School and Makati High School on Wednesday. The program is part of Makati City’s Free Relevant and Excellent Education (FREE) campaign.
