Fighting between government forces and the Maute group in Marawi City has been confined to just three barangays.
This is the report of National Security Adviser Hermogenes Esperon during the ‘Mindanao Hour’ press briefing on Friday.
Esperon says, the Maute terrorists’ presence is limited to just about 49 hectares of the city.
Marawi City has a total of 96 barangays.
Fighting has been going on for 60 days since President Rodrigo Duterte declared martial law in Mindanao.
Esperon notes, five task groups of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) are currently battling with the Maute group.
He estimates about 60 Maute members remain in the city.
He expects the clashes to end in the coming weeks.
Esperon adds, once the Maute group has been crushed, rehabilitation of Marawi City will begin.
