The secretariats of Senate and House of Representatives have ironed out on Thursday the proceedings for Saturday, July 22.
This is for the joint special session of both houses of Congress intended to vote on President Rodrigo Duterte’s request for an extension of martial law in Mindanao for five months.
House Secretary General Cesar Pareja says, they are now discussing how the deliberations will proceed as lawmakers are expected to file motions, join in the interpellations and cast their votes.
Pareja says, the House will make its stand on the martial law extension known through nominal voting of its nearly 300 members.
Lawmakers will be allowed to explain their vote.
Duterte is seeking to extend the martial law in Mindanao until December 31, 2017.
The power to set the period for the effectivity of a martial law extension lies in Senate and Congress, following the Constitution.
