Robert Alejandro hosts ‘Art 2 Art’

Graphic artist and painter Robert Alejandro is serving as guest host for the remaining episodes of Art 2 Art this month.

This is the first time in its 10-year history that Art 2 Art has invited another artist to anchor the program after host, Ballerina ng Bayan Lisa Macuja, had to undergo an operation unexpectedly. With the blessings of the ballerina, who is now in recovery, Alejandro was enlisted to take over hosting duties.

“I feel so honored to be asked to do this,” said Alejandro, who expressed both nervousness and excitement about substituting for Macuja. He was previously an Art 2 Art guest, talking about his art and using it to advance various advocacies.

Alejandro was able to draw on his previous broadcasting experience, having hosted his own art show, Art is Kool, and having been a reporter for the investigative program, Probe, for fifteen years.

Art 2 Art continues to celebrate arts organizations marking special milestones this year.

On July 23, Albert Avellana relates the story behind Avellana Art Gallery, which he started 20 years ago. He has been guiding the artists through their careers, featuring their works in a tree-filled compound in Pasay, which is also known to showcase unconventional art. The current president of the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, Avellana is also preparing for the MaArte art fair in August, which raises funds for the National Museum.

On July 30, stalwarts of the Philippine Educational Theater Association – president CB Garrucho and veteran actor Fernando Josef – talk about the group’s golden anniversary and share anecdotes of going into the field and spreading the word about theater among grassroots communities and also staging productions at PETA’s Quezon City headquarters.

Produced by the Manila Broadcasting Company, Art 2 Art airs every Sunday, 3:30 to 4 p.m., on radio via DZRH (666 khz on the AM band), on cable television via RHTV (Ch. 129 on Skycable in Metro Manila, Ch. 18 on Cignal TV and Ch. 3 on Cablelink) and online livestreaming at http://dzrhnews television.tv. The show may also be viewed through the Facebook account DZRH News Television.
