A huge aftershock hit Ormoc City on Monday morning.
Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) Director Renato Solidum says, it was a magnitude 5.4 quake.
The quake occurred at 9:41 this morning.
The tremor was felt at Intensity 5 in Ormoc City, Intensity 3 in Cebu City and Intensity 2 in Palo, Leyte and Lapu Lapu City.
The depth of the earthquake was at 4 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.
Some residents rushed out their their homes.
Several persons were screaming in fear.
They saw electric posts swaying.
Students at Ormoc City National High School and other nearby schools were allowed to promptly leave the school.
The frenzy and panic caused traffic congestion in the city's major roads.
Solidum says, more aftershocks may happen as a result of the magnitude 6.5 earthquake in Leyte on Thursday last week.
Today’s aftershock came from Tongonan fault in Ormoc City where the earthquake also originated four days ago.
Solidum says, this fault is in a mountainous area.
He warns residents to take precaution against more aftershocks.
He notes, tremors and rains cause landslides.
Solidum is currently in Ormoc City, along with some cabinet officials.
Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez says, the city council will meet later in the day to declare a state of calamity as a result of the tremors.
