The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has recorded two fatalities in the wake of the earthquake that struck Leyte on Thursday.
The agency also puts at 72 the number of persons injured.
In a press briefing on Friday, NDRRMC Spokesperson Romina Marasigan said, the figures may still go up as many structures were damaged.
A state of calamity has been declared in Kananga, Leyte.
One of the two fatalities came from this town.
A large portion of Eastern Visayas suffers from power outage.
Aside from Leyte, lack of electricity also grips large areas in Bohol, Cebu and Samar .
NCGP cites the collapse of its Tower 18 located in Kananga as among the reasons.
Classes were cancelled in Tacloban City.
Ormoc City Mayor Richard Gomez records one fatality in his area.
Flights are still going on in airports.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) is set to send a team to Leyte to inspect visible cracks in the province, particularly in the mountains.
The Office of Civil Defense says, Ormoc City and Kananga sustained the most serious damage from the magnitude 6.5 tremor.
