SMC readies $2-b flood control project

San Miguel Corp. said it will submit to the government this month an unsolicited proposal to build a $2-billion flood control and waste-to-energy project.

“I think the technical side has been done. I think, maybe sometime this month, we will submit it,” San Miguel president and chief operating officer Ramon Ang said.

Ang said the proposed project would help address flooding in Metro Manila during the rainy season.

The project involves the construction of a spillway that will facilitate the release of water from Laguna de Bay to Manila de Bay.

In exchange of the project, San Miguel will ask the government the right to use the waste materials from Laguna de Bay for its planned power generation facility.
