La Salle raises funds for Lariba

A COLLECTIBLE pair of basketball shoes used by the champion team Green Archers in the 2014 Universities Athletic Association of the Philippines men’s caging tournament was the top draw in a charity online auction put up by the Office Development Office of the De La Salle University.

The white and gold Nike Lebron model, donated by La Salle alumni association official Edwin Reyes, had a starting bid of P5,000 and eventually went to Camilla Saguin, who posted the highest bid of P15,100.

The shoes come with a glass casing plus the UAAP medal and championship shirt.

Items like DLSU basketball, vollyball jerseys from La Salle lady spikers and even from non-La Sallians have been auctioned off by DLSU Sports through its social media accounts, Facebook and Twitter, to help raise funds for La Salle alumni and table tennis Olympian Ian Larriba.

Larriba, who was undefeated in her five years of playing for DLSU in the UAAP table tennis competitions and the only Filipino table netter ever to qualify in the Olympics, was recently diagnosed with acute leukemia. She  needs long-term medical attention.

Other items sold in the online auction were Kim Fajardo’s F2 Logistics jersey in the Philippine Super Liga that went to a certain Alyana Claire Gumboc Dancel with the highest bid of P6,200 and Nicole Tiamzon’s UP Lady Maroons jersey that went to the winning bid of P5,100 by Jehan Roselle C. Santos.

A used basketball from the Green Archers’ team was won by Vicente Sy, who posted the highest bid of P3,500.

Administrators of DLSU Sports promised that more items will be put on auction to help Larriba for her medical treatment.

The Philippine Sports Commission had initially funded Larriba’s hospital bills and more private entities like the La Salle groups are putting more efforts to pitch in.

The DLSU alumni have put up a continuous campaign with the hash tag #kayamoyan to help Larriba cope with the rising costs of her treatment.
