PH wind surfer expected to shine

TWO-TIME world champion Geylord Coveta is seeing action in the 2017 Southeast Asian Games.

The 5-foot Coveta—who hails from the small seaside barangay of Anilao, Batangas—is expected to dominate his windsurfing event after he took the RS-1 at the 2017 World Championships in Hoi An, Vietnam.

During the competition, Coveta proved himself by beating his 14 rivals in 13 races.

His coach Raul Lazo said Coveta will show how tough he is in the biennial meet since one of his opponent in the Vietnam event included Asian champion Natthapong Phonnophrat of Thailand.

The 36-year-old Coveta is making a comeback after he missed the podium in last month’s Pattaya Open.

Lazo said Coveta will be back in the Philippine Sports Commission’s list of priority athletes after he became inactive and did not join international meets.

The Windsurfing Association of the Philippines is currently requesting for a Korean training partner for Coveta.

This will help Coveta simulate the tough race that he will confront in Malaysia.
