The Judicial and Bar Council has submitted to President Rodrigo Duterte a shortlist of seven nominees to replace Supreme Court vice Associate Justice Bienvenido Reyes who will retire on July 6.
In its session on Friday, the seven-member council voted to endorse to the President the nomination of six Court of Appeals justices and an academician for an SC post.
Those who made it to the shortlist include CA Presiding Justice Andres Reyes Jr., CA Associate Justices Rosmari Carandang, Jose Reyes Jr., Apolinario Bruselas, Japar Dimaampao and Amy Lazaro-Javier and Centro Escolar University School of Law and Jurisprudence Associate Dean Rita Linda Jimeno.
The voting took place after the JBC conducted public interviews last Monday of eight of the 12 aspirants where they were asked to answer questions relevant to the burning issues of today, about their knowledge of law and jurisprudence, as well as personal circumstances.
Under the Constitution, the President has 90 days from the time of vacancy to make his third appointment in the SC.
