Two fires hit a KTV bar and an orphanage in Manila within minutes of each other early on Wednesday.
The first fire broke out at a KTV restaurant-bar along Rizal Avenue in Sta. Cruz, Manila at a little past midnight. The other fire broke out at the orphanage along Arlegui Street in Quiapo, Manila. No one was hurt in either incident.
Employees of the KTV bar ran out of the building as the fire raged through the second floor.
Ronel Bonifacio, a witness, said he was outside the establishment when he saw “sparks or some sort of electrical discharge” that could have set off the blaze.
Sr. Insp. Reden Alumno, San Lazaro Fire Station commander, said the fire may have started on the second floor where the sound system was located.
The fire, which reached the first alarm, quickly spread through the building as it was made of light materials.
Alumno said initial damage was estimated at P100,000.
The second fire was put out after 30 minutes. The cause of the blaze is still undetermined.
