SEVEN schools will initially hold home games inside their campuses when the 93rd National Collegiate Athletic Association starts with the basketball games.
School officials, led by Management Committee chairman Fr. Glynn Ortega, OAR, of host San Sebastian College, said as league officials prepared for the season’s opening on July 8 at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
“This will be part of our on-tour format,” said Ortega.
Ortega was with board member Jeff Tamayo during yesterday’s weekly PSA Forum at the Golden Phoenix Hotel in Pasay City.
Being the host school this season, San Sebastian College will have Friday games in any of the campuses of Arellano University in Legarda, Manila; Letran College in Intramuros, Manila; and at Emilio Aguinaldo College in San Marcelino, Manila.
There will be games at the University of Perpetual Help campus in Las Pinas, and in San Sebastian College’s Cavite campus.
This new innovation is part of the league’s plans to bring the games to its students.
For the eliminations, Ortega explained that they will hold three games on each of the three play dates of Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
Games on Tuesday and Thursdays are still going to be at the Arena in San Juan.
The opening day game will have host San Sebastian facing defending champion San Beda at 2 p.m.
It will be followed by the duel between last year’s runner-up Arellano University and Mapua at 4 p.m.
The opening ceremony is set at 12 noon.
Ortega said this season is the start of its celebration leading up to its centennial anniversary.
