A quick-thinking pilot of a commercial flight from Davao saved the lives of 159 passengers and six crew members after he decided to execute emergency landing protocols and land the aircraft at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport after the plane developed engine trouble before noon Thursday.
Capt. Allan Roque of Air Asia flight Z2-612 immediately made an emergency landing and the plane landed safely at the Naia Main Runway after one of its engines was damaged.
Officials of the Manila International Airport Authority-Media Affairs Division (MIAA-MAD) said the pilot requested the Manila Control Tower at the airport for an emergency landing PLAN 2 with all available rescue teams on the ground at 10:47 a.m.
The Airbus 320 was scheduled to arrive at 11:30 a.m. in Manila but because of the emergency situation, the flight was given priority to land first than the others and landed safely at Naia Runway 24.
