Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana and Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Chief of Staff Eduardo Año are facing the Supreme Court today.

This is for the oral arguments on the petitions questioning the constitutionality of the imposition of martial law and the suspension of writ of habeas corpus in Mindanao.

At 11 am on Thursday, the justices are in a closed-door meeting with Solicitor General Jose Calida.

The third day of oral arguments on martial law will go on after the meeting.

The magistrates are first discussing the request of Calida on Wednesday.

Calida had asked the high tribubal to turn the oral arguments into an executive session wherein the public and media would not be allowed to listen in.

He believes the testimonies of Lorenzana and Año will entail national security issues.

The justices want to determine the weight of confidentiality that the statements of the two officials will involve.

Should they grant the plea for an executive session, the justices will also determine who may join the proceeding.
