Philippine flags flying at half-mast on government buildings

Government agencies are flying the Philippine flag at half-mast today.

This is in honor of the 58 soldiers and policemen who died fighting the Maute terrorists in Marawi City.

At the New Executive Building in the Palace, the flag was first hoisted to the peak then lowered to the half-staff position during the flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, the first day of work this week.

Philippine flags will be flown this way on government buildings across the country for one week.

In military camps and police stations, the flying of flags at half-mast began on Monday.

Malacañang is asking the public to pay homage to the fallen soldiers and cops.

In a statement, Presidential Spokesperson Ernesto Abella said, “we enjoin the public to honor these heroes and civilians and pray for them and the families they left behind.”
