How young people manage their finances

The digital age has dramatically changed the way we live our life—the way we communicate, we work, we play, we shop, we pay.

Digital transactions have become a norm, which millennials are taking advantage of. In fact, several studies revealed that individuals aged 19-35 prefer alternative financial products like prepaid cards and check cashing services, among others.

Take for instance these college students from different universities in Metro Manila who use Yazz Prepaid VISA, a reloadable general purpose prepaid card from Metrobank, to pay and manage their finances.

Adamson University student Cedric Rosal finds it awesome how his mom, who’s in Davao, can easily send his allowance through the card.

“I no longer have to line up at money remittance stations just to get my allowance. My mom just sends money directly to my Yazz card, and I can withdraw it anytime,” he shares.

Vivienne Mendoza, from Centro Escolar University, meanwhile, gushed at how hassle-free it is to get your own card. “It’s perfect for students like me because you don’t need to bother with so many requirements and go through long process before you can get a card of your own.”

Acquiring a card only requires one valid ID; it is reloadable at any participating outlet, once it’s loaded, it’s good to use.

For his part, Kim Rico Cinco from Lyceum of the Philippines University, uses the prepaid card to budget his allowance “because I can view my balance online, anytime.”

San Beda College’s Kenn Maeda, on the other hand, is having lot of fun using it to make purchases online. “Yazz made it easier for me to subscribe to Netflix.” While Jovy Bequillo uses it to pay for his school miscellaneous at Jose Rizal University.

THE NEW WAY TO PAY. Young adults prefer cashless transactions—using reloadable prepaid card—in paying for their purchases and managing their finances.

Saving money is what inspires Katrina Danganan of University of the East Manila to use her Yazz card.

“It excites me thinking that I could load my extra money in this card to save and use it in so many ways,” she says. “I really feel more responsible handling my money especially now that I am a young adult.”

Arellano University student Zach James Nicholls likes how cashless transactions fit his lifestyle, “I’m always on the go and cashless transactions save a lot of time and space in my wallet.”

Cedric, Vivienne, Kim, Kenn, Jovy, Katrina, and Zach are the new members of YAZZkada, a group of students who embodies the lifestyle of Yazz. Joining them are Charlene Dimalanta of University of Santo Tomas, Sarah Pineda of LPU, and Trina Castillo of Far Eastern University.
