The Technical Education and Skills Development Authority has advised students to choose the right course when they go to college to avoid job mismatched with their skills.
Tesda director general Guiling Mamondiong said it is important for students to choose their proper course so that they could easily land jobs after graduation.
Mamondiong advised those who will enroll at Tesda to choose the right skills and to land better jobs after completion of their courses.
From 1995 up to 2016, Tesda records showed that 30,621,180 enrolled in their training programs. About 25,434,151 students finished their courses; 11,148,144 others got assessment and 9,167,792 were certified.
Tesda said the country needs graduates from five industry sectors such as agribusiness, construction, information technology, health and wellness, and hotel, restaurant and tourism.
Training programs in agribusiness sector are agriculture production and horticulture while in the construction sector, there is carpentry, masonry, and heavy equipment operation.
Programs under information technology sector are visual graphic design, 2D/3D animation, and contact center services.
Under health and wellness, the training programs are massage therapy, caregiving and beauty care. For the hotel, restaurant and tourism sector, the training programs are housekeeping, barista, bartending and cookery, etc.
Last year, training programs in the Top 10 are Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC II; Cookery NC II; Food and Beverage Services NC II; Bread and Pastry Production NC II; Housekeeping NC II; Electrical Installation and Maintenance NC II; Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) NC I; Computer System Servicing NC II; Bookkeeping NC III and Contact Center Services NC II.
