San Miguel Corp. said it expects to complete the construction of a world-class international passenger terminal in Caticlan, Aklan province by the third quarter of next year.
San Miguel president Ramon Ang said the two-story passenger terminal has 12 air bridges and can handle six million passengers a year.
Ang said the new Boracay Airport in Caticlan could now handle Airbus A320 from Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines and other international carriers flying direct from South Korea, Singapore, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and Australia.
The expansion of the runway to 1.8 kilometers from 950 meters as been completed including navigational equipment that enabled night flights. The first A320 flights have successfully landed on November 18, 2016.
The old ramp used to host only four turbo propeller aircraft.
San Miguel, through Trans Aire Development Holdings Corp., is leading the expansion of Boracay airport under a 25-year build-rehabilitate-operate-transfer concession granted by the Transportation Department.
TADHC holds the exclusive rights, obligations and privileges to finance, design, construct, operate and maintain the airport under a concession agreement with the Transportation Department and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines
Aside from Boracay airport, the infrastructure arm of San Miguel owns the Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway.
San Miguel is also building Skyway Stage 3, the Ninoy Aquino International Expressway and the proposed Metro Rail Transit Line 7.
San Miguel earlier signed an agreement with Philippine National Construction Corp. to jointly expand toll roads worth P554 billion under an existing joint venture.
The expanded road network will include extension of the Metro Manila Skyway Stage 3 project and the Metro Manila Expressway, or C6/Skyway Stage 4.
