6 gigantic movies hitting the theatres in June

The summer movie season in the United States is usually very predictable but this year it’s going to be a big exception.

We are listing down 6 big movies that are poised to shape up 2017 to be a record-breaking year in movie history, with tons of sequels, origin stories, and event pictures.

Wonder Woman

Who runs the world? Girl power is back on the big screen. Directed by Patty Jenkins, Wonder Woman is based on the DC Comics character of the same name and is the fourth installment in the DC Extended Universe. Amazon Princess Diana who lives on the island meets American pilot Steve Trevor after a crash. He then tells her about the conflict in the outside world and leaves home to bring an end to the war. It stars the exciting screen tandem of Gal Gadot and Chris Pine.

Baywatch

Look who’s bringing sexy back. Directed by Seth Gordon (Identity Thief, Horrible Bosses) gives global audience his version of the ‘90s TV phenomenon. The film, which is top billed by Zac Efron, Dwayne Johnson, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, and Jon Bass, is a 116-minute feature full of witty one-liners, over-the-top action scenes, and references to the original Baywatch television series and cast members’ previous movies (such as Efron’s High School Musical).

Can We Still Be Friends?

On the local front, Star Cinema is fielding another romcom with Gerald Anderson and Arci Muñoz playing the lead. Can We Still Be Friends?, which begs the question “Can ex-lovers still be friends?” revolves around the story of Diego (Anderson) and Sam (Muñoz) whose relationship takes a rollercoaster ride from being lovers to exes, and then then peers.

Despicable Me 3

The movie’s third installment continues the adventures of Gru, Lucy, their adorable daughters — Margo, Edith and Agnes — and the Minions. Joining Steve Carell and Kristen Wiig in Despicable Me 3 is Emmy, Tony and Grammy Award-winner Trey Parker, co-creator of Comedy Central’s global phenomenon South Park and the Broadway smash The Book of Mormon. Parker voices villain Balthazar Bratt, a former child star who’s grown up to become obsessed with the character he played in the ‘80s, and proves to be Gru’s most formidable nemesis to date.

Transformers: The Last Knight

The Last Knight shatters the core myths of the Transformers franchise, and redefines what it means to be a hero as humans and Transformers are at war, and Optimus Prime is gone. The key to saving humans’ future lies buried in the secrets of the past, in the hidden history of Transformers on Earth. Saving the world falls upon the shoulders of an unlikely alliance: Cade Yeager (Mark Wahlberg); Bumblebee; an English Lord (Anthony Hopkins); and an Oxford Professor (Laura Haddock).

The Mummy

Global megastar Tom Cruise headlines a spectacular, all-new cinematic version of the legend that has fascinated cultures all over the world since the dawn of civilization: The Mummy. From the sweeping sands of the Middle East through hidden labyrinths under modern-day London, The Mummy brings a surprising intensity and balance of wonder and thrills in an imaginative new take that ushers in a new world of gods and monsters. The film also stars Sofia Boutella as the ancient queen of the unforgiving desert.
