ON orders of Quezon City Mayor Herbert Bautista, District 1 Councilor Anthony Peter “Onyx” Crisologo has spearheaded the discussion to redevelop the district of La Loma into a tourist site.
Bautista formed a technical working group composed of representatives from different departments and directed Crisologo to oversee the project plan and implementation.
Crisologo recently met with the members of the technical working group.
A meeting with the owners of various restaurants selling roasted suckling pigs in La Loma will soon be set.
Divina Gracia Pascua, the city’s tourism chief, recommended to Crisologo to also look into the economic aspects of redeveloping the district into an annual tourism destination as the country’s lechon capital.
The mayor has envisioned a spacious, walkable, clean and orderly La Loma if plans for the district’s redevelopment should go on as planned.
The group noticed the traditional display of lechon along sidewalks were exposed to dust and other microorganisms that could pose risks to the health of the consumers.
Crisologo said there must be a uniform design for every stall, and that glass wall or cover must be needed to cover the roasted suckling pigs in display.
“We also welcome the construction of a slaughterhouse to ensure a safe product fit for human consumption,” he added.
