FOR many athletes, the 27th Southeast Asian Games should serve as part of their preparations for the 2019 edition of the games that the Philippines will host.
Philippine Olympic Committee President Jose “Peping” Cojuangco said the athletes were asked to have this kind of commitment for the country.
“They have to prove that it’s worthwhile to include them. And I want to know how interested they are,” said Cojuangco following yesterday’s POC General Assembly in Wack Wack.
A total of 492 athletes have been included in the national delegation to the 27th Southeast Asian Games in Malaysia slated this August.
This is according to an update submitted by chef de mission Cynthia Carrion.
Overall, a total of 742 athletes, coaches and officials will make up the Philippine delegation to the games.
The POC is working on finalizing the list of national delegates in order to meet the June 30 deadline that Malaysian organizers set.
That list will now have entries by name.
Organizers from host Malaysia have promised athletes, officials and participating countries a smooth and competitive games.
The SEA Games will open on Aug. 19, with the Malaysian Organizing Committee of Kuala Lumpur 2017 telling all participants that preparations for the biennial meet are on track.
The games will see the participation of more than 7,000 athletes from the SEA region.
