LOCAL wonder girl Glydel Guevarra emerged a triple-winner at the recent Cebuana Lhuillier Age Group Tennis Championship Series to lead the charge for Iriga City in Camarines Sur, winning two individual titles and sharing a crown in the doubles’ with her partner.
Guevarra swept her opponents in the finals of both the girls’ 12-under and 14-under, taking out another local girl Carla Andrada, 6-1, 6-0, in the 12-under and following it up with a 6-2,6-1 beating of Jezzele Romero for the 14-under crown.
She then completed her triple play by partnering with Romero to win the girls’ 14-under doubles’ title of the tournament supported by Dunlop as the official ball.
Another local player, Marcel Corea also did the host city proud by ruling the 10-under unisex group with a 4-1, 4-1 win over Catalog, Albay’s AA Aguila.
Together with Lyka Idioma, Corea bagged the 10-under unisex doubles crown by edging out Mqkeyin Oliva and Nathaniel Cortez, 8-6 in the finals.

A non-Bicolano winner was regular series campaigner Rainier Angelo Selmar from Bacoor, Cavite who also copped two titles.
Selmar beat Legazpi, Albay’s JC Gonzales, 6-1,6-3, for the boys’ 14- under title, then made his mark in the 18-under doubles where he teamed up with Osward Hernandez to beat the tandem of Jumar and Jenard Gonzales 8-3 for a share of his second title.
Nica Alagis underscored the hometown advantage of local players as she retired Patricia Corporal, while ahead, 6-1, to win the girls’ 18- under title, while Jenard Gonzales from Legazpi City duplicated it in the boys’ side with a three-set win over Jumar Gonzales, 6-4,6-7, 10-7.
Gonzales also ruled the boys’ 16-under group with a masterful 6-0, 6-3 victory over local bet Lance Guevarra.
Earlier, Corporal took the girls’ 16-under crown and added it to the host city’s collection after beating Katrina Salvadora, 6-4, 6-2, in an all-Iriga City finale.
Corporal also took the girls’ 18-under doubles’ title with partner Abby de Castro, beating Katrina Salvadora and Iane Contreras, 8-4, in the championship match.
The other individual titlist was JB Aguilar from Camalig, Albay as he went home with the boys’ 12-under title after defeating visiting Ralph Adrian Selmar, 6-4, 6-1, in the finals.
In the boys’ 14-under doubles, Lance Guevarra and Miller Corea emerged champions, posting a close 8-6 victory over the duo of Marlon Cores and Marc Ejipto.
