Special cabinet meeting to tackle AFP battle against Maute group

President Rodrigo Duterte will hold a special cabinet meeting at the Presidential Guest House in Panacan, Davao City.

This will be at 4:30 pm on Thursday.

The intense fighting between government troops and the Maute group in Marawi City and the overall security situation in Mindanao are expected to be the main agenda.

The President flew to Davao City from Manila after getting a security briefing on Wednesday night.

On Wednesday afternoon, Duterte had arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Pasay City after cutting short his official visit to Russia.

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) reports, seven have been killed on government side.

Five of the fatalities are soldiers while two are policemen.

31 soldiers are wounded.

The total number of fatalities due to the clashes reportedly stands at 22.

The figure includes two civilians.

Maute group members have been spotted in some vital installations in Marawi City, including the Lanao del Sur Electric Cooperative.

The local terrorists are said to be holding at least five hostages.

The military says, its combat operations in Marawi City may take two to three more days.
