Former National Press Club (NPC) president and Manila Chronicle editor Reynaldo D. Jaleco passed away last week.
He was 89.
Jaleco started his career in journalism as a copy reader for the pre-Martial Law Manila Chronicle and then worked his way up to become reporter and then news editor.
He also headed the Chronicle News Service as editor before becoming president of the NPC in 1968.
After Martial Law was declared in 1972, he put up his own publishing company and published several magazines, including Focus Magazine, Accent Magazine, and Philippine Magazine, over a period of 30 years.
Jaleco is survived by his wife Ofelia Jamerlan, sons Rodney and Bing, daughter Regina, daughters-in-law Zeny and Stella, grandchildren RP, Ynez, Bea and Pocholo, great grandchildren Prince, Paolo and Solaris, brother Felicisimo, and sister Delicia.
His remains lie in state at the Nobility Room of the Loyola Memorial Chapels Commonwealth in Quezon City. Cremation will be on Friday, May 26.
