TACLOBAN CITY—The Second Leyte Engineering District of the Department of Public Works and Highways has completed 13 of its 74 target infrastructure projects going into the second quarter of this year.
With a budget of P766.16 million, the 74 infrastructure projects are all lined up for 2017. Thirteen of the projects have been completed, eight ongoing, and 53 have yet to start.
DPWH 2nd LED District Engineer Carlos Veloso said projects that have yet to start as of May 2 were still on pre-detailed engineering activities. Some were for bidding, while others have contract documents still being processed.
However, Veloso assured these pre-construction activities would be undertaken and all projects would be completed on time.
These projects are mainly road widening, reblocking and flood control projects. Bridge widening projects, to expand bridges to more than two lanes, are also slated this year.
These bridges include those in Calbasag, Bocog, Balocawe, Bawon, and Balire along the Maharlika Highway.
The Ponong, Sagkahan, Tagak, and Cocot bridges along the Palo-Carigara-Ormoc Road are also part of the widening project.
Meanwhile, a P201-million Binahaan Bridge project will also be started along the Pastrana-Dagami-Burauen road. The project will be implemented by the DPWH regional office.
