CEBU CITY—Hundreds of voters in Cebu tried to beat the deadline Saturday for the registration of voters for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan polls set to be held in October.
Cebu Provincial Election Supervisor Lionel Marco Castillano said the voters’ registration period for the barangay and SK polls started on Nov. 7 and ended on Saturday, April 29.
Castillano said elections officers in the town and cities were given instructions to accept applications for voters’ registration only up to 5 p.m. on Saturday.
He said the poll body has been reminding prospective voters not to wait for the last day of registration.
In Cebu City, long lines were observed at the satellite registration booths at the Robinson’s Cybergate Mall at Fuente Osmena.
The Cebu City election offices for both the north and south districts earlier set up satellite registration booths at the activity center of Ayala Center Cebu from Monday to Thursday.
These registration booths were moved to Robinson’s Cybergate Mall on the last two days of the registration on Friday and Saturday.
Castillano said the number of new registrants are still being collated by his office.
