IMMIGRATION officers at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport held a Chinese national wanted by Chinese authorities for various crimes while about to leave the country.
The foreigner, identified as Weng Wenmin, was intercepted at the Immigration departure area of the Naia 3 terminal after Immigration found out that Weng was among the many fugitives being sought by the Chinese Embassy in Manila.
It was not yet clear if Weng was among the 55 Chinese fugitives earler deported by the BI who were all wanted by the Chinese government for operating an online gaming operation in Manila.
BI port operations division chief Marc Red Mariñas said Weng was supposed to board a Cebu Pacific flight to Hongkong and had presented himself for inspection at the BI departure counter before he was arrested.
An immigration officer noticed the passenger’s personal details exactly matched those of a Chinese national who was issued a watchlist order by the BI.
