Prosecutors from the Ombudsman have asked the Sandiganbayan to consider Former Vice President Jejomar Binay and Former Makati City Mayor Erwin “Junjun” Binay as flight risks.
This is in an effort to block the motion of the Binays seeking to be allowed to go to Israel.
The two are facing graft and malversation charges at the Third Division of the Sandiganbayan.
In its opposition, the prosecutors said, “not only are they travelling with immediate family members who happen to be in a similar situation as they are, both accused also failed to show other personal and professional reasons that will compel them to return to the country.”
The prosecutors are referring to Jejomar Binay’s wife, Former Makati Mayor Elenita Binay, who also has pending cases of graft and malversation cases before the anti-graft court.
Mrs. Binay will take the same trip.
The Binays want to join a pilgrimage to Israel from May 15 to May 29 this year.
