A joint hearing of Senators and members of the House of Representatives is ongoing on the illegal occupation of housing units in Pandi, Bulacan by members of the urban poor group Kadamay.
Senate Committee Chairperson on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement talks about the need to put all government housing projects under just one housing agency.
He says, at present, government has six government offices overseeing these programs.
Ejercito says, “dapat isang direction lang (we should have just one direction). We have six government agencies with no master plan.”
“Itama natin ang sistema bago magtuloy sa mga programang pabahay (let us correct the system before we proceed with the housing programs),” he suggests.
Ejercito warns, what happened to National Housing Authorities’ project in Bulacan must not be a precedent.
He believes, a group cannot just occupy housing units meant for other beneficiaries.
