THE Moro Islamic Liberation Front can set aside land where sports facilities can be built.
The Philippine Sports Commission got this assurance from MILF vice chairman Ghazali Jaafar.
PSC Chairman William “Butch” Ramirez said around 10 hectares could be used to develop a sports complex in Maguindanao.
Jaafar discussed this possibility with Ramirez when they met at the MILF enclave of Camp Darapanan in Sultan Kudarat.
According to Ramirez, Jaafar will take up this proposal with the MILF central committee.
Last week, Ramirez went to several camps of the MILF in a bid to reach out to former Muslim rebels and get them involved in grassroots sports.
The PSC chief said they plan to set up offices in areas where the MILF is active.
Officials of the MILF also expressed their interest in developing 10 priority sports in their area of responsibility.
They said their interests are in the combat sports, pencak silat, kuntao silat, archery and athletics.
