Magdalo Partylist Representative Gary Alejano has filed a supplemental impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte at the House of Representatives.
The additional document was submitted by the lawmaker at the office of the House secretary general at 10 am on Thursday.
The complaint backs the original impeachment case Alejano filed against the chief executive last March 16 or two weeks ago.
Alejano says, the supplemental impeachment complaint accuses the President of betrayal of public trust and that he had supposedly committed a culpable violation of the constitution.
This is in connection with the way the Duterte administration handled the Philippines’ territorial dispute with China in the West Philippine Sea.
“Binawi nya ang ruling ng Arbitral Tribunal at hinayaan nya ang mga Chinese na mag-abuso sa West Philippine Sea (he turned away from the ruling of the Arbitral Tribunal and he allowed the Chinese to commit abuses in the West Philippine Sea) ,” he said after filing the additional complaint.
“This is an important issue na dapat panagutan (he should answer to this important issue),” Alejano added.
Alejano also criticized Duterte over his alleged lack of action to protect Benham Rise off the coast of Aurora province from Chinese intrusion.
The lawmaker spoke in a briefing after he submitted the additional complaint affidavit.
