The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is now processing applications for special permits for trips of passenger buses.
This is in view of the expected surge in the number of travelers who will visit the provinces and take vacations this summer, especially on Holy Week.
LTFRB Chairman Martin Delgra told a hearing of the House Committee on Transportation on Wednesday that his agency has begun processing applications.
He said, for the past two weeks, the LTFRB has issued special permits to 1,600 bus units.
Delgra noted that this figure indicates, there is shortage in public transportation serving passengers across the country.
The LTFRB is set to conduct regular inspections in bus stations.
