The Supreme Court has junked the disbarment case filed by Former Manila Councilor Grego Belgica against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio Morales for lack of merit.
In a unanimous decision, the high tribunal declared that Morales cannot be dismissed through a disbarment case.
They declared that only an impeachment case can remove the Ombudsman from her post.
Belgica earlier filed a disbarment case against Morales for having absolved Former President Noynoy Aquino of liability over his administration’s alleged questionable use of the Disbursement Acceleration Fund (DAP).
The former councilor had accused Morales of violating the Lawyer’s Oath and the Canon of Professional Responsibility.
The Supreme Court's ruling was read by SC Spokesperson Theodore Te in a briefing on Tuesday afternoon.
