Ombudsman Morales faces disbarment case at Supreme Court

A former Manila councilor has filed a disbarment case at the Supreme Court against Ombudsman Conchita Carpio-Morales.

This is supposedly for absolving Former President Noynoy Aquino in the graft and technical malversation charges, as well as in a case of usurpation of legislative powers, over his administration’s supposedly questionable use of the Disbursement Acceleration Program (DAP).

Former Manila Councilor Greco Belgica has asked the high tribunal to revoke Morales’ license as a lawyer for alleged violation of the Lawyer’s Oath and the Canon of Professional Responsibility.

Belgica says, Morales had committed this offense when she approved the resolution acquitting Aquino of criminal liability in the DAP case early this month.

The resolution had found probable cause in filing the same cases against Former Budget Secretary Florencio Abad.

Belgica said, Morales’ action deprived the Filipino people of their right to procedural due process.

Aquino had appointed Morales to the post of Ombudsman when she retired as Supreme Court associate justice in 2011.

She is due to retire on July 25 next year.
