Hundreds of commuters were stranded by the transport strike staged by jeepney organization “Stop and Go Coalition” on Monday.
But the group failed to paralyze public transportation in Metro Manila due to many factors.
These include the suspension of classes in elementary and high schools in the National Capital Region and the deployment of buses by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA).
UV Express also filled the shortage in jeepney services in some routes.
Nevertheless, many commuters were also seen walking in the streets for lack of public transportation.
Some of the areas affected by the transport strike include Monumento, Edsa- Guadalupe, Alabang viaduct, Baclaran and Taft Avenue.
As of Monday noon, Malacañang has not announced the suspension of classes in universities and colleges.
It is leaving it up to the tertiary schools to determine whether or not students should go to their classes on Monday afternoon.
