The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is ordering a moratorium on education tours and field trips for college students.
CHED Commissioner Prospero “Popoy” de Vera said, this en banc decision comes, following the tourist bus accident on Monday morning in Tanay, Rizal that killed 15 persons, mostly students from Bestlink College in Novaliches, Quezon City.
“This is an unfortunate tragedy. The Commission shares the grief of the families. We will expedite the investigations to determine if proper procedures were observed by school authorities,” De Vera said in a press briefing.
He noted, schools should have been very strict in contracting the services of the buses.
He also said, school administators should have given parents an orientation on the dangers that such field trips entailed.
He added parents should have been notified one month prior to the trip.
De Vera said, the reasons for conducting some of these so-called educational tours are irrational.
He added, for now, schools must find other options in exchange of these trips.
