Death toll in Surigao quake rises to eight

The death toll in the earthquake that rocked Surigao del Norte last Friday stands at eight.

This is based on the tally of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) which conducted a briefing on Monday morning in Camp Aguinaldo.

NDRRMC Spokesperson Mina Marasigan places the number of injured at 202.

The estimated cost of damage is at P 108 million.

Marasigan says, potable water remains the primary need of quake victims.

The NDRRMC has set up filtration camps to provide clean drinking water for the residents.

A C-130 plane is flying to Surigao del Norte on Monday, carrying relief goods, including tents.

At least 1,034 houses were damaged as a result of the tremor.

155 of these homes were declared totally destroyed.

16 barangays still suffer from power outage.
