The House of Representatives is considering an inquiry into the cost of building the MRT-LRT Common Station in North Avenue, Quezon City.
House Speaker Pantaleon Alvarez notes, the project to be called ‘Unified Grand Station’ was worth P 778-million eight years ago or in 2009 but now, yet it has now ballooned to P 2.8 billion.
“Win-win situation yan para sa mga negosyante, pero hindi sa taong bayan na sumasakay (that is a win-win situation for businessmen but not for the commuters using public transportation),” Alvarez observes.
“Win-win situation yan sa may mga commercial interests (that is a win-win situation for those who have commercial interests),” he reiterates.
The common train station will be built in between SM North Edsa and Trinoma Mall.
In its reply, the Department of Transportation says, the P 778-million figure was just an initial estimate for the construction of the train station.
But Alvarez says, the House Committee on Transportation will scrutinize the agreement signed for the project.
