Senator Alan Peter Cayetano may join President Rodrigo Duterte’s cabinet three months from now.
In a statement, Cayetano said, “I told the President that I will help in any capacity na sa tingin nya ay makakatulong. So by April or May, pupuntahan ko sya. Kung ano ang sabihin nyang assignment ko ay malugod kong tatanggapin (I will go to him. I will gladly accept whatever assignment he gives me).”
As for the current members of the President’s cabinet, Cayetano noted, “they are all performing well.”
Cayetano will replace Secretary Perfecto Yasay at the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Duterte earlier said, he only requested Yasay to assume the DFA post as he waits for Cayetano, who is covered by the one-year ban on candidates who lost in the elections.
Cayetano was Duterte’s vice presidential bet in May 2016 polls.
Yasay intends to return to his teaching profession in the United States.
