The Quezon City Council has authorized the release of over P28 million in aid to cities and provinces devastated by typhoons in 2016.

Quezon City will grant P16 million to fund the rehabilitation and restoration of government buildings and structures damaged by Typhoon “Lawin” in the provinces of Ilagan, Apayao, Cagayan and Kalinga, the city public information office said. It will also fund the construction of a multi-purpose evacuation center, hospital and wet market.

QC also released over P12 million to help rehab the towns of Mahatao, Basco, Ivana and Itbayat in Batanas, which were hit by Typhoon “Ferdie” in September last year.

Batanes Gov. Malou Cayco recently visited QC Hall to personally thank the city government for its assistance.

Quezon City’s Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, the Engineering Department, and Social Services Development Department will also be sending a rapid assessment team to areas affected by “Nina” in the Bicol region, specifically the cities of Ligao, Legazpi and Naga, to determine their priority needs.
