Oro’s controversy failed to generate higher revenue for the film as it was pulled out from the cinemas, pending re-editing of the now infamous “dog slaughter” scene.
So many new films (local and foreign) have opened last Wednesday and from what we’ve heard, “most of them are doing a kill at the tills.”
The sad part of the whole controversy was the ruling imposed by the panel of MMFF executives that found irregularity and deception from the producer and director of the movie.
“They lied to us when they told us that no animal was harmed during the filming,” quoted Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) Chairperson Liza Diño.
Because of that, director Alvin Yapan and producer Shandy Bacolod have been suspended for one year from participating in the MMFF.
Earlier this year, Oro was also stripped off of the Fernando Poe Jr. Memorial Award for Excellence it won after PAWS (Philippine Animal Welfare Society) and other individuals that advocate “pro-animal” causes called the attention of Senator Grace Poe.
“It is a sad happening but we are obliged to obey. It’s just that I personally found the banning of director Yapan quite offensive. Hindi naman yata makatarungan na i-ban ang aking direktor na makasali uli (in the MMFF). Freedom of expression at ito ay isang constitutional right ang paggawa ng pelikula. Kung may nagawa kang mali, puwede kang parusahan. Ang mali kasi it opens a door for reforms. But it doesn’t end your right as a human being,” expressed Bacolod who also admitted the mistake and asked for forgiveness for what they did.
Well, MMFF is not MMFF without controversies. But how true are the words by some groups that the Oro team is only paying for the wrongdoing and bad things they did even when the film was just starting to shoot?
Some of these protesters said, “Nagbabayad lang sila kasi malupit at hindi sila propesyonal na kausap. Mayayabang pa sila. KARMA lang iyan sa kanila.”
Ouch!!

However, we find Sen. Tito Sotto’s proposal for MMDA to establish a film festival exclusive for the indie movies “too self-serving.”
In a resolution he filed in the Senate, he is calling for the said government agency that runs the annual MMFF to create a festival exclusively for independent movies (doesn’t he know of quite a number already?) and this should be done according to him on semestral breaks.
Christmas as the time for families especially children is the argument he used citing that MMFF must show family-friendly movies like it did in the previous years.
His resolution also states, “the absence of the mainstream films in the MMFF entries for 2016 was prejudicial to the regular MMFF moviegoers, particularly the children, who always look forward to these movies to bond, enjoy, be entertained, and share a good laugh with their family and friends.”
Well, do we need to shout out his being a Sotto to feel what we feel on this? We saluted and supported Sen. Sotto’s cause/advocacy against illegal drugs in the country, but on this, excuse lang muna noh!

Meanwhile, does Mocha Uson enjoy her rebirth in showbiz?
She is more controversial and famous now and is always in the news, and mind you, a headliner at that, something she never experienced even during their “fresher” years as a member of an all-female sexy group that promotes nothing but sexiness, and even lesbianism.
Her recent appointment as MTRCB member generated buzz and bashing as usual but should one take a look at her credentials, she has it naman.
She has quite an impressive resume being the daughter of a former RTC Judge, a teacher and a graduate at University of Sto. Tomas. But the nagging question is, does she have the right attitude and decorum for such a position?
We will find out very soon as this piece believes in giving a chance to people who want to serve and be a voice of “change.”
So Mocha don’t disappoint us ha?

Speaking of Filipino movies that will hit the theaters soon, how true is the item that this hunk actor who feels superior than his co-stars allegedly wants to have his own promo gimmick and does not want to join his co-actors who share similar titular role?
According to our spy, this hunk actor claims that his schedules do not match those of his co-actors and that he brags to have his own “media” friends and contacts who can help him publicize and promote their quite “interesting movie” about legal issues and exams?
Hmmm…you will know very soon as our same spy said, “He really has that attitude. He always feels superior and thinks he is the more visible among his peers because of his other exposure in other entertainment field.”
