Duterte names ‘Mocha’ MTRCB board member

CONTROVERSIAL starlet and blogger Margaux “Mocha” Uson has been appointed by President Rodrigo Duterte as board member of the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board,  Malacañang announced Thursday.

Uson, who was appointed for a term expiring on Sept. 30 was chosen by the President for her long stint in the entertainment industry, Communications Secretary Martin Andanar said.

“Why not?” Andanar told reporters in a chance interview when asked why the president named the self-proclaimed blogger and sex guru to a sensitive post, like the state censorship agency.

“Mocha is an artist. She is one of the biggest artists we have in the country. She’s been in the show business world for more than a decade already.”

“She is an educated person. She is one of the biggest bloggers in the Philippines,” he claimed.

Uson, who was recently named ambassadress of the Metro Manila Film Festival, rose to national prominence during the 2016 presidential elections for leading the Mocha Girls, an all-female group of dancers who appeared during then candidate Duterte’s campaign sorties.

Her controversial ‘blog’ has been used as a platform to hit critics of the administration and vilify journalists as “presstitutes,” or journalists paid by powerful people to write biased and inaccurate news.
